Blog 7 –Voice recording and editing
The voice recording was relatively smooth as it was done
quickly by a single person. It was decided earlier on due to time restraints
that a single person will voice multiple voice over characters that are needed
to create the illusion of a fake reality. However, the time saved with only
needing one person for recording the audios was later spend additionally on adding
audio effects. The extra audio effects were added on later for better
differentiation of characters, also creating an illusion of a wider cast. Voice
effects were added with the free software, audacity for several characters.
Effects like the equaliser, noise reduction, phaser were
used to make the characters seen more robotic.
The equaliser and high-pass filter were used to create a
radio voice effect.
The animated characters Red and Poppy received a higher
pitched voiced to make it obviously synthesised.
There were some plosives or popping p sounds that were in need of adjustments.
However, it was quite a challenge to keep all the separate
voices consistent between all the characters.
Despite the setbacks due to working with an unfamiliar software, it was quite enjoyable to discover different effects and how the audio can affect the style of my short film greatly.
