Link up the historical footages with meaning/
social issue:
During the research of footages, I
found that there were a lot of social issues in Hong Kong in 1970s, such as
fire safety, corruption, drug problem, crime, cleanliness and road safety. And
I am going to focus on kids’ lives and development of Hong Kong than the others,
so the content of the video will be about education policy, students’ school
life, after school life and development of Hong Kong. TV became a very
important technology / entertainment product in 1970s as well, I will include
this element in my video as well.
The story is from 1970 to 1979. The
video starts with a basic image of Hong Kong through Victoria Harbor and road
view of Kowloon, the story starts here with an animated boy waking up in his
bed and what’s his daily life is. It includes walking to school where the
background are the street views, walking up to school where is located at
rooftop, how the rooftop school looked like, what kids did at school, what they
did after school. The first part of the story ends with sleepy animated boy.
Showing significant historical footages is next and imply the time passing by.
This section ends with the animated boy growing up, new education policy and
new built school buildings in Hong Kong. Then, show the different school life
in the late 1970s. The animated boy had class in a regular school building,
thus classroom. ETV, the educational TV programmes were included in their study
programme. The animated boy returns home and does his homework after school
same as the previous view.
Though, there is an implication on
color behind. The first part of the story is in black and white or dull color
because of the development of the technology and extensive use of color TV,
while you can see the transitional period of colored programmes in the middle of
the story. At the end, the colored programmes/ TV are a common thing in the
society and the technology of the color shown in TV is developed brighter and
more colorful.
