Some video shots were re-used. It is lucky to me that those kind of the shots were suitable to the story and they smoothed my work finally. The re-used shots were taking by me before. I find them back from my portable hard disk drive.

Besides, I have used the electric voice to replace the Nike+ run Club, the app that measures and records the distance and pace of a walk or run. Voice of the app was hard to record. I selected the google translation, typed the time, distance, and the pace I designed, and, clicked the ''listen'' button so that google will read the content out. And I recorded google's voice through the GarageBand.

Although I know I am still not good enough, I feel satisfying to complete my work. Thank you the actor and my friend, the bike offering. Thank you again for their help !!

Blog Title: Some Other Stuff I Met In The Editing

It's the first time I handled something about the voice over.

GarageBand is the internal software in the Macbook and that's my first time trying to using it. I think I can improve the skill of sound recording next time. For example, I need to find out the best distance between the mouth and the microphone.

One important thing I need to mention is that I met a obstruction while I want to render my video out. FCPX kept holding orange on the timeline bar of some edited video but it shows 100% of the background task. (If the video is fine, the orange would disappear on the timeline.) After I finish all the editing, I clicked the 'share' button. It pulled down the list to export the video. But I cannot do anything for the next step!!!!! 

That's anxious to me that I find any method on the internet to see what going on of my software and ask some friends, who are working on media field, on Facebook. I find a foreign forum which gather a group of FCPX users and keep scanning any post were mentioning the same question as me.

After around an hour, I decided to search my question on Youtube. And I find a 2 minutes video teaching the audience how to solve the problem. Thank god I can render the video finally. However, after this lesson, I think I might rather to 'Youtube' my the problem than 'Google' first.

Blog Title: Editing

I choose to use Final Cut Pro X to be my video editing software and use GarageBand to recording the voice over of my video. In the process of the editing, some ideas kept shocking into my mind that I don't follow the script to edit the video. I change the format of storytelling.

Basically, I divided my video produce into 3 parts : ''The Introduction'', ''The Reason'' , and ''The Thought''. This is because I would like to clarify my video so that I can tell the story with the meaning easily within 10 more minutes. 

Besides, at this time of editing, I had tried to do the colour correction for the shots in order to make those shot happen at the same moment. It is worth mention that the shot Tommy's leg got wounded. The shot I corrected the colour to be like at the morning but I take the shot at night actually.

At the end of the editing, I decided to add a question at the end of the video so that the audience might think, even ponder, the question like the character of the video.

Blog Title: The second day of shooting


22/11/2016 Tuesday rainy day

Today was a rainy day.
Luckily, the influent to my schedule of today is not serious.

It was planned to take some shots about Tommy at home and some about the bike with tommy. Also, I need to re-take some shots which were not perfect at the before shooting. It is thankful that my friend who were the road bike player offer his own bike and the helmet to me.

For the indoor shot, everything were smooth. We only took around 30mins to finish all the shot I need. However, it was pouring outside after we finished the indoor scene.


Around 6:00, it seems better. It kept raining outside but the actor and I have no other day can be use for shooting. We decided to go out but I changed shooting place. I selected the bridge and the tunnel instead of a bike trail so that we can avoid the water because of the bridge cover and the root of the tunnel.

I have checked the weather report that today might have a few shower. Luckily, it is not bothering the shooting.

As the inspiring from Haruki, I renew the story plot.

10 Kilometers is a story talking about Tommy, a boy who decided to run because of one day he woke up too early and nothing to do at home, and how he began to love running.

Tommy used to be a road bike player. He would like to feel the silent when he came home after every road bike practice. And, as a sport player, he pressed on to success he running goal -- 10 Kilometers. 

Although I have prepared the storyboard which help me to explain what I am going to do to the actor, I find some special angle can be use while we were walking on the promenade. For example, the reflection of the puddle or the mirror on the road.

Once my friend, who know Haruki Murakami is one of my favourite writer and know what the homework I am doing, send this website to me. It is really thankful that these useful article inspiring me to renew my story !! 

Haruki Murakami is a Japanese writer. His masterpiece which had been translated to more than 50 languages over the world. For example, Norwegian Wood and 1Q84 were the well-known story of Haruki Murakami that keep displaying on the best selling book shelves in the book store.

That's the article talking about what Haruki's perspective of running. Haruki mentioned that running is a boring sport that runner keep the same action from the beginning to the end, not like football or basketball that the player might face different situation in the game. I agree that running is quiet bored so the runner have the time to think of different thing. Haruki is a long run fever. Due to the runner need to be alone, run across the silent, and run with perseverance, he thinks this is a sport similar with writing, as he need to be alone, calm and perseverant to create his works.

One important term Haruki have mentioned ---- 'I run so I am'. 

It is the terms influent me to make a deep pondering on what running mean to me is and why I run. And, it leads me want to add the term ''I Run So I AM'' into my production so that to bring out and enhance the existentialism to the audience.

Blog Title: The Draft of the Story outline and The day of shooting preparation

幸福之歌 (The song of blessedness) a song about the guy who kept singing the song of blessedness to encourage himself not to give up his dream in his daily life. That's the video which inspiring me to be the turning point that encourage the character to restart run. I am wondering if I can add this song into my video. However, all I need to do is to prepare of shooting schedule.

According to the draft of story, I have decided to take Tseung Kwan O South Waterfront Promenade as the place shoot the running shot. Tseung Kwan O South Waterfront Promenade is located between Tseung Kwan O and Lohas Park where is an landfill coastal areas about 2 kilometers.

That the first shot on Tseung Kwan O South Waterfront Promenade which I filmed through Gopro 3+ Black Edition. Besides, I have taking some shot at my friend's home which is about scene 2, the moment of Tommy leaving home to run.

It is found that using Gopro Camera is complicated to me. Because of the unsatisfactory accessories, I need to connect my iPhone to replay want I have recorded. I don't have the monitor of my Gopro, also the hand-held stabiliser.

With this, I need to consider should I use the Gopro continually in the near future. Also, a strong feeling recurred onto my mind that I need to change the storytelling method to improve the entertainment and the meaning on my video. And I need to think of some element on my video to let the audience reflect themselves.

I know that if I type the keyword running on youtube would found an ocean of video as the result. However, it is not all the video are useful for me to take a reference. Suddenly, I remember Gopro the brand that always upload the videos of different sport on youtube.

Thus, I search the keyword 'running gopro' and I find the video that on the above. Perhaps I can make use of Gopro to help me produce my video.

Blog Title: Research

Research method: Interview

Even though I enjoy long-distance running, it is not enough to help me to create the character of the story. In order to approach the mindset of the runner, I when to the stadium interview the runner.

That's the Saturday night (5/11) that I prefer I would meet a lot of runner on athletic track. Unluckily, people were not that much.  

Maybe I select the wrong time that the track users were like walking more than running. Perhaps it's because they only went for a walk after the dinner. Suddenly, I find that someone were running fast across the people. He gained my attention successfully and I would like to interview him after he sprinted.

Because of the respect, I wont publish his face. His name is Johnny and he is a university student in the course of sport management. Running is one of the favourite sport of Johnny. He said he will have a great feeling of success after every running. '' That's because of the endorphin. '' said Johnny.

Endorphin is a pharmacology stuff inside our body which are released to help easing the depression and pain.

I have asked Johnny that what he would think while he run. He answered me that he would think unconstrained when he was taking a long distance run. For example, he would think of something about the school homework or something like philosophic question such as the existentialism. However, he will only think of the finishing line while he was running in the short distance competition. That's the different attitude.

It is surprising me that I find someone as me that would like to think of the existentialism while running. After the interview, I decide to contain the sense of existence into the video

Project Title: 10 Kilometers

The purpose of my video:

It is hope that 10 kilometers is a video that can encourage the audience to run after watching it.

10-K run is a kind of long-distance road run competition which is suitable to the marathon beginner. However, it seems that every marathon runners face the challenge of insistent attitude to finish the achieve the running goal.

The theme of video is Never Give Up, which is an old say but useful, to match my video purpose. I have planned to produce a fictions video which is talking about a man who kept recalling his memory of the past and imagining his life in the future while he was practicing 10K marathon. That's a kind of life experience to me that I will keep thinking of different stuff when I am running. Although I know I need to concentrate myself to finish the road run, different ideas keep bothering me. And one of the idea is to take that situation to become a video.

I finished the draft version and invite my friend to watch it so that I can get the comment to improve my video.

Things to improve:

1. The sound quality
   Some scenes when I was talking are not enough sound level but some scenes are a bit higher. I need to make a balance of the sound level.
   
2. The font
   For the text I use for transferring the scene, size level of 48 is too small that would make the audience feel uncomfortable.

It is appreciate that the theatre members feel touched and resonant after watching the video. And it is a great encouragement to me of making this video.

And now the video are mainly surround the performance from 2015 to 2016 which is about the 3rd annual drama ‘’If Superman Can Fly” in 2015 and the 4th drama “Planes in the sky of Cellarro Hattan” in this year.

And, the video will make more use of the shot of “If Superman Can Fly” to present what the interviewee talking about because of the performance date of “Planes in the sky of Cellarro Hattan” will be hold on the late of July which are not availble for me to clip the audience reaction after the watch the show.

I decided to change the theme of the video. I would like to make “Team cooperation” as the main theme of my video. At the beginning of the first scene, a group people would hand in hand to make a circle and cheer ‘Good Show’. And I would make the end of the video with a group of people who are shouting the cheer.

There would be 2 main parts of my video: ‘Unexpected News’ and ‘The Crying Lady’.

The first one is talking about the news I mentioned on the former blog while the second part is talking about the interview of Lemon and introduce what the Rush Theatre is.

Lemon, Lai man-ting, the interviewee I would like to invite because She has been the member

of Rush Theatre since 2014. She is the member who contacted us though the Facebook page inbox message. She found we are too young to work a drama group but she appreciated us.

She found we can recall her memory of drama when she was a student.

She has been a professional nurse for 6 years after university graduation. She said she was extremely nervous when she was finding us at the very begining as She lost her confidence on playing drama.

At the very beginning, I would like to invite her because her was the mature one in our team who has graduated and worked for more than 5 years. At the same time, she stopped playing drama for 5 years. 5 years later, she contacted us directly. Drama must gain some meaning to her.

After listening the unexpected news, Lemon cried in front of us. She was worried about the performance because it is the second drama performance since she worked. I would like to change the direction of my video. I would like to ask her perspective of Rush Theatre

There was a sudden unexpected news to Rush Theatre two weeks before for the drama performance. One of the actresses has to arrange for a funeral between the drama performance on 30th and 31st of July. It means that she cant join the drama performance anymore and no rescheduling is allowed.

As a corn member, I feel like the sky was collapsing. The news recall my memories of daily practicing with the member and I don't want any changing or extra arrangement to bring the burden to the whole people. Not to mention I feel depressed of wasting the afford of 4 months.

We figure out the solution and we announce to the member. They had different reaction to this news. Lemon, Lai man-ting, was crying for the news and she was worried about the progress of the performance.

I think that we have too many difficulties and I  decided to change the project direction to present what the Rush Theatre is.

The video will surround Rush Theatre. It is a youngster organisation set up in 2011 and registed in 2013. It is a team that would like to make use of black box theatre to do the drama performance.

The video would make use of some hand clapping sound of drama show audience at the beginning with the team member’s curtain call. After that, it would be the black scene and white text introducing the background of Rush Theatre.

As I am going to use the style like performative documentary, I am going to be on the sence with the interviewee and saying my point of view of working a theatre in Hong Kong : Ds it hard to do that? Do we have any supportors? Have any difficulties we face?

Due to the duration of the video, I am going to decrease the number of interviewee from 4-5 people to 1 people.

There are more than 1000 Gb video of Rush theatre in my portable drive which can reveal the growth of this group of people. Besides, I have kept clipping the video for every practice since the March of 2016 as it will have a performance at the last July.

I decided interview around 4-5 members who are willing to help me finish my project independently. They are the person who are the professional nurse, the fresh graduated student, the university student, and so on.

I got the inspiration from the documentary movie The Taste of Youth, the recently boardcast in Hong Kong. I would like to do make my media project begin with the drama performance and the youngster interviewee.

Besides, I have clearified the meaning of performative documentary which is often autobiographical work in nature. I am one of the member of Rush Theatre so I would like to create a kind of performative documentary. For this, I have searched about the movie of Michael Moore, the most famous filmmaker currently working in performative documentary mode, on Youtube in order to find the inspiration.

Project Title : Black Box Youngster

My topic of intensive project is about to reveal the perspectives of the youngster in Hong Kong in what they feel and how they thought about living in Hong Kong.

I would like to interview the local theatre, Rush Theatre, who has only been set up for four years by the teenagers in Hong Kong. It is a group that always makes use of the black box theatre, a relatively recent innovation in theatre that usually make use of a large square room with black walls and a flat floor as a stage to do the performance.

Recently, the junk-youngster, describes that the teenagers who are not willing to follow the mainstream on the older’s eye, become a common word in Hong Kong.

As the controversial development of theatre or drama in Hong Kong, there are the obviously different perspective between the old generation and the youngsters : while the older want their children to follow the ordinary step to the society, the youngsters would like to follow their mind to do the things they want.
