I went to Ap Lei Chau Main Street and Lei Tung Estate to shoot the video today with my camera.  I have shot some buildings, restaurants and wet market.  However, when I took my camera into the wet market, those peddlers used some strange view to look at me.  They were afraid of me because they were not willing to be shoot.  Therefore, I used my phone for shooting when I walked in the wet market.  Phone was easy to handle and would not make a bad feeling to the peddlers.  I have closed up the products that sold in wet market such as vegetables, seafood and fruit.  Next, I went to the Hung Shing Temple and Wind Tower, which are in Ap Lei Chau Main Street.  Hung Shing Temple is oldest temple in Ap Lei Chau.  It was probably built in 1773 for the worship of Hung Shing.  Also, the wind tower park was officially opened to the public in 2009, which featuring a promenade with traditional fishing harbour theme and a wing tower shaped like a traditional fishing junk.

Therefore, I went to South Horizons and Ap Lei Chau Estate to take the video and photos today.

Ap Lei Chau Estate is one of the Hong Kong public rental housing.  It is located in the northern part of Ap Lei Chau.  Most of the buildings are pink and white in color.  There are some restaurants and mini shop in this small area.  Moreover, Ap Lei Chau Estate is near South Horizons.  They are only have a road distance between them.

This is South Horizons, which is a private housing estate.  It is located in the western part of Ap Lei Chau.  It consists of 34 blocks, ranging in height from 25 to 42 storeys.  The buildings are mainly green and brown color.  It has its own shopping mall and restaurants.  People no need to worry about their living.

Last few months, there was a TV programme called "A local tour" (街坊導賞團).  Every episode would introduce a district in Hong Kong and bring the audience to have a travel in Hong Kong.  It has invited the localist and the local tour guide to share their feelings towards the district and talk about the district history, culture and special shop.  Because of this video, I have the idea of making a video about Ap Lei Chau.  

This programme have used a interesting way to introduce different district.  It was not only find a tour guide to talk about the history and culture of the district.  It has combined the old and new photos to make a comparison to let the audience have a deep understanding of what the tour guide said.  Also, the programme had included some graphics and animations to describe the culture of each district.  As a result, I would like to include some motion graphics and old photos in my video as to make the video more informational and interesting.

This is the first time to make a documentary individually.  It should be a big challenge for me.  Therefore, I have looked for some references of documentary shooting tips and the history of Ap Lei Chau.

There are ten basic tips for shooting a documentary.  It explained that make sure to get different shooting angles for every scenes as we will have some choices in the editing process.  Then, we can use some interesting effects such as time lapse.  It stated that time lapse is one of the most visual and fun ways to capture a story.  It recommended to choose some funny ways to make the video more interesting and attractive.  Also, do not zoom for the close ups.  As the image quality will be lose when we zoom in.  As a result, whenever possible, just walk up to whatever we want a close up.

I hope to make a video that introduce Ap Lei Chau as I live in Ap Lei Chau and many people do not know where is it.  Therefore, the theme of the video is know more about Ap Lei Chau.  When they heard the name of Ap Lei Chau, they would compare with Cheung Chau and Lamma Island.  They thought that the only transport in Ap Lei Chau is ferry.  However, it is not the truth, there are bus and mini-bus.  Therefore, the purpose of this video is to let the audience know and understand more about Ap Lei Chau.  The target audience is teenagers who would like to explore more about Hong Kong. The beginning of the video I may use motion graphic to introduce the position of Ap Lei Chau in Hong Kong, then Ap Lei Chau includes different places, so I may introduce them one by one and state out their special things and features.  For example, the special food and the scenery around Ap Lei Chau.
